Subject: book club meeting: Thu 8/1 Again apologies for the delay in sending out this note: Synopsis: Attending the meeting: Peter, Jim, Wendy, Ann. We discussed "The Botany of Desire" by Michael Pollan. The discussion tended to concentrate on the latter parts of the book, where he gets increasongly political as he covers Marijuana and genetically modified potato; he's even more political in his N.Y.Times editorial on corn. Next meeting: Thu 10/3. We will read 2 short books by Alvin and Virginia Silverstein, "Life in a Bucket of Soil" and "A World in a Drop of Water"; the Ginkgo shop at the Morton Arboretum has these, though the latter may have to be ordered. The book after that will be "Nature's Metropolis: Chicago and the Great West", by William Cronon. Peter http://www.wideopenwest.com/~peterwchen/book.html
